Risks & Responsible Use

Last updated: March 5, 2026

1. Fair Play Commitment

ChessHelper.ai is designed as a learning and analysis tool. Our primary use case is helping players practice against computer opponents, analyze positions in real time, and improve their understanding of chess strategy.

While the extension technically functions during live games against human opponents, we strongly believe in the integrity of competitive chess. Using engine assistance against unsuspecting players undermines the spirit of the game and damages the online chess community.

We strongly encourage fair play. Please use ChessHelper only against computer opponents or for post-game analysis and learning. Using chess assistance against real players is unethical and violates the terms of service of all major chess platforms.

2. Account Safety

If you choose to use ChessHelper during online play, you should be aware of the detection risks. Chess platforms invest heavily in cheat detection systems, and certain behaviors will trigger them almost immediately.

  • Use a new account. The extension works best with fresh accounts that have no prior game history. Established accounts with hundreds of games at a consistent rating will immediately flag anomalies when performance suddenly jumps.
  • ELO mismatch is the fastest way to get banned. If your real rating is around 400 and you start playing at 2800-level strength, platforms will detect this within approximately 6 games. The system compares your move accuracy, speed, and consistency against your rating history.
  • Sudden improvement is a red flag. Even on new accounts, jumping from beginner-level play to grandmaster-level play in a single session will attract attention. Consistency matters.
  • Game mode matters. Rated games are monitored more closely than casual or unrated games. Higher-rated game pools have stricter detection thresholds.

The larger the gap between your real skill level and the engine strength you use, the faster detection will occur. There is no way to safely play at 2800 ELO on a 400-rated account.

3. ELO Configuration

The single most important setting for avoiding detection is the Engine Strength slider. This controls the ELO level at which the engine plays. Setting it correctly is critical.

Recommended Settings

Always set the engine strength to match your actual rating, or only slightly above it. Here are our recommendations:

Your Real ELOSafe Engine SettingRisk Level
400 - 600600 - 800Low
600 - 800800 - 1000Low
800 - 10001000 - 1200Low
1000 - 12001200 - 1400Medium
1200 - 15001400 - 1700Medium
1500 - 18001700 - 2000Higher
1800+2000 - 2200High

Tip: Increase your configured ELO gradually over weeks, not overnight. A natural improvement curve is much harder to detect than a sudden jump.

4. Anti-Detection Features

ChessHelper includes built-in features designed to make engine-assisted play appear more natural. These features simulate human-like behavior patterns that reduce the statistical footprint typically associated with engine use.

  • Variable move timing — Instead of playing instantly, the extension adds realistic delays that mimic human thinking time, including longer pauses on complex positions.
  • Occasional sub-optimal moves — The engine intentionally plays slightly imperfect moves at a rate consistent with the configured ELO, avoiding the 99%+ accuracy that flags engine use.
  • Natural mouse movement — Moves are executed with human-like cursor patterns rather than instant, pixel-perfect clicks.

If you play at a normal ELO level relative to your actual rating and enable the anti-detect features, you should not get banned. However, no system is foolproof, and chess platforms continually update their detection methods.

We take no responsibility for any consequences. Anti-detection features reduce risk but do not eliminate it. Always assume there is some level of risk when using any chess assistance tool during online play.
